Guides, Brownies & Rainbows

High Carntyne is the home of the 278th Guide Unit and Brownie Pack, as well as our Rainbows! Guiding is a world-wide organisation for girls and young woman, which aims to give them the change to explore and expand their horizons with as much help and support as possible. Girls from High Carntyne were recently presented with their Baden-Powell challenge badges in the City Chambers in Glasgow, and in the New Year, our Senior Section will be expanding to include monthly meetups to work towards the Chief Guides Award. All in all, it’s a great time to be in Guiding!

Rainbows

The Rainbows are the youngest members of the Girl Guiding family aged 5-7. The girls meet each week in High Carntyne Church from 6.30pm-7.30pm to play games, do crafts, work on their various badges and challenges and have lots of fun! We like to run around and make a lot of noise! Last year, some of our activities included: a Bring and Buy Sale, a Dance and Aerobics night, lots of craft evenings and our end of term party. We’ve got lots planned for this year, including lots of exciting activities to celebrate the Olympic Games. We’ve just lost 5 of our girls to the Brownies, so at the moment we have a few spaces for girls aged 5-7 who would like to come and join in the fun! To find out more about the spaces available, please phone Louise-Anne Geddes on 07960139277.

Brownies

The Brownies are the next level up for girls in the Girl Guiding family, aged 7-10. The girls meet each week in High Carntyne Church from 6.30pm-7.45pm to play games, work on various different badges (you could have a cook, booklover, dancer or even an entertainer on your hands!), and do crafts. The girls are always quick to lend a hand, and are very keen to help, especially when the Rainbows come to visit! We love to try new things, and this year will be no different as we join with the Rainbows to try out the new and varied programme of activities for the Olympic Games! If you fancy joining in the fun, please phone Collette Anne Geddes on 07708250511.

Guides

Guides at High Carntyne are VERY popular! We have over 30 girls between the ages of 10 and 14, who meet every Wednesday from 7.15pm til 9.15pm. They work in patrols, choosing their own activities each week, as well as games and campfire songs. There’s also the chance to go camping at certain times, and the opportunity to get involved in the wider world of Guiding in Glasgow. Recent activities have included a Pudsey Bake Night, a Night of Getting to Know You, and two girls attended a Baden Powell Adventure weekend away! Our Guide Unit is currently full to bursting, but we hope that there will soon be some spaces free. If you’d like to come and join us, use the “Contact Us” tab above, and we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening.

Senior Section (age 14 – 25)

Our Senior Section recently restarted, with a group of 5 girls aged 15 – 18 taking charge of their own programme. Senior Section offers young women the chance to really spread their wings, with opportunities for holidays, Duke of Edinburgh, leadership qualifications and much, much more. They can choose to work on projects that really interest them, and Senior Section activities can make a CV or university application really stand out from the crowd! The Senior Section currently meet alongside the Guides, and from January will also meet once a month, on a Thursday, for their own enjoyment. It’s open to any young woman between the age of 14-25, and there’s no requirement to have been a Brownie or a Guide to join! For more information, use the contact us link above.
